What is oppression?

Thinking over our scenes in class and our discussion, apply a definition to today's study. What is oppression? Who is being oppressed in Brave New World? By Whom? For what? How did the still scenes help you consider oppression?

As defined by wikipedia oppression is "Oppression is the negative outcome experienced by people targeted by the arbitrary and cruel exercise of power in a society or social group. The term itself derives from the idea of being 'weighted down.'" With this I believe that the whole society is being oppressed by the means of the World State. The World State has targeted society as a whole and has put restrictions on them all throughout their life. The reasoning behind it is to create the "perfect" society or at least a vary successful and efficient one.
